Primary Purpose

Spencer Gray is searching for a Sr. Network Engineer for our client in Downtown San Diego. The position serves as operational network support team lead of 3-4 engineers in a CISCO environment. Working in a technical supervisory role, the Senior Network Engineer has primary responsibility for leading team members in operational support of the network enterprise. The Senior Network Engineer is primarily responsible for all aspects of the LAN/WAN Infrastructure, including maintenance - proactive and reactive - and optimization. This position will also play a role in the day to day operation of Security Infrastructure, monitoring network related tools for indications of malicious activity that may lead to systems compromise and degradation of LAN/WAN performance and stability. Maintains a LAN/WAN infrastructure, supporting an enterprise level server and user infrastructure, as well as the diverse and complex business applications riding on them. Has a thorough understanding of Change Management and its effects on ensuring business continuity and uses his/her knowledge LAN/WAN topologies and communications protocols to recommend, plan, and implement technical solutions meeting complex business needs.

Responsibilities/Duties

·         Oversees a team of 3-4 Network Engineers.

·         Designs, develops, implements, etc.

·         Provides high-level enterprise network support; resolves problems and answers questions related to the network, contacts vendor and carrier support when necessary to resolve network problems and/or outages.

·         Ensures that the network is running at optimum speed and efficiency through monitoring and optimization.

·         Installs, configures, and documents network systems.

·         Administers, maintains, secures, supports, and recovers network systems.

·         Monitors and maintains network security related applications and their output for indications of malicious activity.

·         Ensure that project network designs conform to best practice security configurations.

·         Develops and monitors processes that ensure the ongoing secure configuration of the network architecture.

·         Plans, coordinates, designs, tests, and implements technical solutions for multiple concurrent projects, either individually or as a member of a project team.

·         Provides immediate feedback to Project Managers and Managers on the health and well-being of the network.

·         Is responsible for the integrity of the network.

·         Performs technical analysis of software, hardware, and network systems.

·         Maintains and operates network monitoring and diagnostic equipment for capacity planning, maintenance, and diagnostic purposes.

·         Communicates technical information in a clear and concise manner.

·         Provides technical support regarding network operations, problems, and malfunctions.

·         Performs diagnostic tests, notes symptoms, and gathers relevant problem/malfunction facts and data from users.

·         Serves as the technical liaison to the user community and vendors.

·         Serves as the technical lead in the evaluation and recommendation of new technologies.

·         Coordinates service calls and schedules appointments with service providers to ensure satisfactory resolution of problems and malfunctions.

·         Prepares network diagrams, flow charts, graphic presentations, and narrative reports to recommend improvements or resolve problems.

Qualifications

·         BS/BA required.

·         Lead or supervisory experience.

·         Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Cisco based network.

·         Minimum 5 years’ experience in an enterprise level environment supporting multiple diverse site.

·         Cisco VoIP experience required.

·         Cisco certification a must. CCNP or CCNA or CCIE (preferred)

Has worked with at least 500+ end users and comes from a large enterprise environment

·         Ability to handle Network Systems Administration tasks.

·         Ability to recognize and respond to indications of malicious network activity.

·         Experience configuring and tuning of IDP/IPS, Firewalls, and Network behavioral analysis tools.

·         Ability to mentor and supervise the completion of complex network administration tasks.

·         Demonstrated experience at working well with senior and peer management, all levels of end users, and peers in high-pressure situations and complex environments. 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

·         In-depth understanding of the OSI networking model.

·         Demonstrated, thorough knowledge of key protocols such as TCP, IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP, etc.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of routing protocols, such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.

·         At least 5 years’ experience in design and implementation of large enterprise networks.

·         Knowledge of Microsoft systems and services such as WINS.

·         Ability to monitor the network environment using hardware and software tools.

·         Ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidences.

·         Ability to manage client expectations.

·         Effective writing and speaking skills sufficient to be persuasive in advocating technical solutions tailored to meet specific business needs.

·         English-Spanish bilingual is preferred, but not required.

·         Must be able to travel (typically one week every two months) and would include international.

·         Strong interpersonal skills at all levels of management and ability to lead employees and apply techniques to solve dynamic problems.
